Nestled among the Julian Alps along the shores of the iconic Lake Bled, the small town of Bled is a perfect base camp for those hoping to explore the lake and nearby Triglav National Park.

Budget travelers and backpackers will find a range of cheap accommodations and hostels all while enjoying cheap pints of Union or Laško beer.

Bled is an easily accessible town connected by a local bus service and two train stations. The town and its attractions are easily reached by foot or bike. In fact, a trip along the lakeshore path around the lake takes only about an hour.

Hard to reach, harder to leave

An adventures playground, this little town close to the Italian Border provides access to the incredible blue waters of the Soca River Valley & green mountains of Triglav National Park

The town has retained its small town feel, and the locals will tell you they are happy to not be on the train line. If you have the patience to make your way here, you will be rewarded with perfectly unspoiled natural beauty. Read more about my time in Bovec!

Capital of Slovenia

A small capital by European standards, the quaint capital was named after the word for beloved in Slovenian. Walking the streets you will quickly understand the feeling.

The city feels small and welcoming, covered in bright colored houses and greenery. Enjoy the arts scene in the city, including a stay at the coolest hostel ever, Hostel Celica’s.

People bike and walk everywhere here. Enjoy a stroll along the river and stop off at the little cafes. Explore the many bridges across the river, each with their own character.
